RADIO OPERATOR PERMIT

To operate a radio on board a commercial vessel, you must have a Marine Radio Operator Permit (MROP) issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).  

​

To obtain the permit, you will need to pass the MROP exam, which can be done at Capitanasos Maritime Academy in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

​The permit is issued for life. There is a one-time fee of $305.00

Includes the students' book, course from 8:30-5:30 pm. Test the same day.

Holding a Radio Operator permit ensures compliance with FCC rules and the safety and efficiency of radio communications.

IS YOUR LICENSE EXPIRED?

​

The US Coast Guard recently announced that the "Grace Period" for renewing an expired license has been extended from 1 year to 5 years. If you have an expired license, you may renew it as long as it has expired for no more than FIVE years from the original expiration date. Keep in mind that once a license is expired, you may not serve in the capacity of your license. The grace period only allows you to renew the license, not to operate a vessel. Feel free to call us if you need help renew your license.
